Rev. Katy Medinas-Lockley
Rev. Katy Medinas-Lockley serves as Clinical Pastoral Education Specialist at WakeMed Health & Hospitals. Born and raised in North Carolina, she has a BA in Religious Studies from East Carolina University and a Masters in Divinity from Duke University. She is an ordained Elder with experiences in palliative care, home hospice, and service in the local church. In her free time, she enjoys reading, creating art, cooking, singing, and having fun with friends and family.

WakeMed Health & Hospitals
Rev. Medinas-Lockley is an ACPE Certified Educator Candidate. She serves in the Spiritual Care Department at WakeMed Health & Hospitals, which offers Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). CPE seeks to help adult learners become more aware of themselves in their ministry to and service of others. In this work, she collaborates with staff chaplains, other educators, and hospital staff to provide an experiential learning environment for students. She walks alongside chaplain interns and residents as they grow in their ability to offer spiritual care to patients and families who find themselves in the hospital.

A Leader Forming & Peace Building Ministry
CPE “brings together theological students, ministers, and qualified laity into supervised encounters with people in crisis.” Therefore, this space creates opportunities for both Leader Forming and Peace Building. CPE students are often already leaders in their churches, who, as a result of CPE, grow in their leadership abilities. What they learn in CPE is applicable to not only hospital ministry but is helpful for ministry in all of its forms. As hospital chaplains, CPE students also engage in Peace Building. Chaplains offer a calm, non-anxious presence; their very presence often brings peace to patients, families, and staff amid life’s most challenging situations.
