The North Carolina Conference announces a transition in leadership for the Capital District Superintendent.

Rev. Dr. Chris Brady has faithfully served as Capital District Superintendent since 2021. Rev. Dr. Brady, diagnosed with breast cancer in May, will continue his healing journey while on medical leave through the end of the appointment year. Bishop Connie Shelton said, “Please be in prayer for Rev. Dr. Brady as he begins radiation treatment tomorrow. He has expressed deep gratitude for the love, prayers, and cards received from across the Conference. Continue praying for wholeness and peace.”

Since Annual Conference, Rev. Jon Strother has been serving as interim Superintendent. Bishop Shelton shared, “We are forever grateful to Rev. Strother for picking up this important work the week of Annual Conference session to help with pastoral transitions. What a gift he is to the NC Conference.” Rev. Strother will remain in the interim District Superintendent role through September.

Beginning October 1, Rev. Alan Felton will assume the interim Capital District Superintendent role through the end of the appointment year, while continuing to serve Benson Memorial UMC. Bishop Shelton noted, “The significant ministry of Benson Memorial UMC is a wonderful backdrop for Rev. Felton to superintend. Their historic witness of justice and inclusion continues to cross barriers even today. Rev. Felton’s commitment to the connection, his collaborative leadership, and the partnerships he nurtures will bless the district and Benson Memorial UMC in this season.”
We give thanks for the leadership of Rev. Dr. Chris Brady, Rev. Jon Strother, and Rev. Alan Felton, who each offer their gifts to the mission of the North Carolina Conference. Extend your gratitude to them for their faithful service.
