Black History Month: A Clergy Celebration of Truth and Legacy

February 17 @ 12:00 pm 1:30 pm

The Strengthening the Black Church Committee of the NC Conference of The United Methodist Church is honored to invite you to the inaugural “Black History Month: A Clergy Celebration of Truth and Legacy,” to be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, at Garner United Methodist Church, 201 Methodist Drive, Garner, NC 27529. This first-of-its-kind gathering marks a significant moment in our Conference’s ongoing commitment to truth-telling, justice, and the celebration of Black faith and leadership. This year’s theme, “Truth That Heals, Truth That Frees,” calls us to honor the sacred work of truth-telling that has shaped the Black church and strengthened our collective witness. In a time when truth is often contested or diminished, we gather to remember the stories that formed us, to celebrate the legacy that sustains us, and to recommit ourselves to the work of justice, mercy, and freedom.

We invite both clergy and laity across the Conference to join us for a luncheon designed to uplift, inspire, and strengthen our shared work. Together, we will remember the past with gratitude, speak truth with courage, and imagine a future rooted in God’s liberating love. This inaugural event invites us to honor the sacred stories that have shaped our collective witness and to reflect on the legacy that continues to guide our ministry today.
