Gray is a retired United Methodist elder who is currently serving as Conference Secretary for The NC Conference. A native of Smithfield, NC, Gray is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, The Yale Divinity School, and The Columbia Seminary Doctor of Ministry program. He has served six local churches within The NC Conference, as well as Durham and Capital District Superintendent, and as Assistant to the Bishop. He has written for several preaching journals and two exegetical books. He has been honored to serve as a member of several General Conference delegations and has also served on the boards of Wespath and, currently, on the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women. Another favorite activity has been working with and teaching in the Course of Study at Duke Divinity School.
He is married to Susan Lewis Southern, a retired educator. They are the parents of two children, Kirk and Mary-Gray, in-laws to a delightful daughter-in-law, Giselle, and the exceptionally proud
grandparents of Eliza.
Gray enjoys reading, all genres of music, hiking, and traveling.
