Alan is a native of Edgecombe County in Eastern North Carolina and a graduate of NC Wesleyan University and Duke Divinity School. He and his wife, Joan, are proud parents of two adult children and their precious dog, Freedom. Alan has served congregations in Oxford, Henderson, Apex, Durham, and Raleigh.
Alan is a trained Conflict Transformation Minister and Intentional Interim Ministry Specialist. He has a passion for proclaiming the Gospel, making disciples through personal and organizational development, and working for justice, particularly at the intersections of race and gender.
Before entering the ministry, Alan worked in political consulting and was also an executive in the NC state government, working in taxation and change management. In addition to serving as Interim District Superintendent, he also serves as Senior Pastor at Benson Memorial UMC in Raleigh.
