North Raleigh UMC is seeking a part-time (20 hours/week) Director of Missions to lead the church’s mission and justice ministries. This position serves as a staff liaison for our mission team, social justice team, and community partners, and develops, motivates, and deploys lay people in service with our partnering organizations. 

The salary range for this position is $25,000-$30,000 for 20 hours per week.

POSITION TITLE:  Director of Missions

HOURS:  20 hours/week 

REPORTS TO:  Senior Pastor (Laura)

SUPERVISES: N/A

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Missions is responsible for overseeing North Raleigh UMC’s mission and justice ministries.  This position serves as a staff liaison for our mission team, social justice team, and community partners, and develops, motivates, and deploys lay people in service with our partnering organizations. 

The Director of Missions maintains a visible, relational presence on Sunday mornings and strategically throughout the week with groups of youth and adults to foster connection and missional engagement across the congregation.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MISSION PROGRAM LEADERSHIP

Serves as the staff liaison for the Mission Committee, partnering with the Mission Committee Chair to provide vision and direction for the church’s mission ministries, including the Blessing Initiative.
Assists Lay Mission Leaders with administrative needs, including Church Center, event management, calendar management, and volunteer recruitment. 
Manages the Mission Calendar for all mission ministries of NRUMC, offering frequent, accessible, and meaningful service opportunities for our laity to directly serve our community, as well as engage in initiatives that support the mission of NRUMC and those of our Blessing Initiative Partners.
Maintains church relations with community partners such as nonprofits, schools, and other agencies, including chosen Blessing Initiative Partners.
Coordinates quarterly Mission and a Meal event and other intergenerational congregational involvement in “hands on” mission and fellowship.
Actively recruits, onboards, and deploys new volunteers to serve with our mission partners. 
Serves as the staff facilitative leader for Adult Mission Trips, provides administrative support, spiritual direction, and prepares teams for serving.  

JUSTICE PROGRAM LEADERSHIP

Serves as the staff liaison to the Social Justice Team, partnering with the Social Justice Team chair to provide vision and direction for the church’s justice ministries.
Serve as the church liaison to OneWake, attending OneWake events and ensuring OneWake opportunities are communicated to the church and relevant partner organizations.
Partners with lay leaders to provide quarterly educational and/or informational opportunities related to justice issues.
GENERAL 

Provide oversight of the Missions and Social Justice budgets.
Attend Missions and Social Justice Team meetings.
Attend weekly staff meetings and other staff commitments as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field (e.g., theological studies, social work, social sciences)
3+ years of experience leading a ministry of mission and/or justice.
Commitment to teaching United Methodist theology and NRUMC’s mission and vision
Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
Strong computer skills including competency in Google Drive and Church Management Software (Planning Center preferred)
