Position Summary
The Leader of Modern Worship provides musical, spiritual, and relational leadership for the congregation. This individual helps cultivate a worship environment that is authentic, engaging, and theologically grounded in the Wesleyan tradition. Through collaboration with staff and volunteers, the Modern Worship Leader fosters meaningful worship experiences that invite participation, deepen faith, and support the overall mission of the church.

Minimum Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in worship leadership
- Ability to support UMC polity and theology
- BA in religious studies and/or music studies preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Vibrant and personal relationship with Christ
- Humble and team-oriented spirit
- Strong relational skills
- Ability to recruit, equip, and lead a volunteer-based ministry
- Technological skills in media software, live streaming, and audiovisual systems
Essential Functions:
- Collaborates with the Associate Pastor of Modern Worship to plan weekly worship services, ensuring alignment between music, message, and overall flow of the service
- Provides spiritual and musical leadership for worship team members, fostering a healthy, encouraging, and team-oriented environment
- Leads the musical portion of the Modern Worship service with authenticity, excellence, and pastoral awareness
- Coordinates and leads weekly rehearsals, preparing musicians and vocalists for Sunday worship
- Identifies, recruits, and develops volunteer musicians and vocalists to build a sustainable and growing worship team
- Supports the ongoing development of the Modern Worship service, contributing to its tone, culture, and overall direction as it evolves
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers supporting worship technology (sound, slides, livestream as applicable), helping to ensure a smooth and engaging worship experience
- Participates in regular worship planning and staff collaboration as needed
- Assists in stewarding budget, and resources related to modern worship, including instruments and equipment, in coordination with church staff
- Complies with DUMC Safe Sanctuaries Policy
Benefits & Flexibility:
Part-time staff are eligible for approved time away, including up to three Sundays away per year with advance notice.
