Members of the NC Conference recently joined together with ecumenical and interfaith leaders and community members for public witnesses of faith, justice, and love in action.
Love Forward
On February 14, 2026, Repairers of the Breach concluded the Love Forward Together Mass People’s Assembly & Moral March Mobilization, traveling from Wilson to Raleigh, NC. The march speakers addressed a wide range of issues from the economy to immigration, and many raised awareness that the N.C. legislature is attempting to redraw North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District.
“We’re United Methodists, and we believe in justice because that’s who we believe God to be, and we want to be clear that our identity as Christians means that we stand up for our immigrant neighbors and for public schools, for the poor, for the oppressed,” said Rev. Amanda Rigby, Associate Pastor at Edenton Street United Methodist Church. “That’s a core part of our faith. That’s a core part of who we are.”

Faithful Resistance
On February 25, 2026, over 50 NC Conference members traveled by bus to Washington, D.C., to join Faithful Resistance: A Public Witness for Immigrant Justice, an ecumenical and interfaith event hosted by several United Methodist general agencies and partner organizations. They joined a total of 1,200 participants who worshiped, marched, and rallied together, followed by visits with congressional representatives.
“I was deeply moved to stand alongside hundreds of United Methodist leaders and ecumenical partners, bearing public witness to God’s love for our immigrant neighbors,” said Rev. Ismael Ruiz-Millán, Executive Director of Connectional Ministries. “We showed up not in anger, but in hope. Not in fear, but in faith.”

Rev. Sunny Limm, District Superintendent of the Fairway District, spoke about why he joined in Faithful Resistance, “I’m here to stand in solidarity, and as an immigrant myself, this is not just about the immigrant community, but it is also about the humanity that we all hold and share together. I believe Christ is among us, especially among the vulnerable, and I believe that it is really important to come out and bear public witness to Christ among us.”
