John Hall
John Hall currently serves as our North Carolina Conference Lay Leader and as a Certified Lay Minister at Aldersgate UMC in Durham, focusing on worship and administrative leadership.
Before dedicating more time to ministry, John spent 23 years as an R&D development engineer with Hewlett-Packard, then joined SAS as a technical trainer specializing in computer architecture. He retired from SAS in 2018, which has given him more time to invest in the work he’s passionate about.
John and his wife Holly have two children and one grandson, who they’re pretty sure is the most amazing kid around!

Certified Lay Minister, Aldersgate UMC
John is assigned to Aldersgate UMC in Durham, where he focuses on worship and administrative leadership as well as infrastructure tasks, such as managing the church’s technology systems, including computers, networks, user accounts, and shared storage. He provides support and training, ensures reliable and secure access to digital tools, and works with ministry leaders so technology effectively supports the church’s mission.
Loving Boldly, Serving Joyfully, Leading Courageously
Through this Certified Lay Ministry, John leads worship, manages the church’s technology infrastructure, and equips ministry leaders with the digital tools and training they need to carry out their mission. Much of this ministry is equipping and enabling, providing ways for others to discover and develop their abilities and gifts. By advocating for reliable, secure technology as an essential part of the church’s mission, John has stepped into a leadership role that bridges worship, administration, and technical innovation.
