With your support, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) awarded 35 scholarships totaling $77,600 to students in the NC Conference. Across the denomination, GBHEM awarded more than $3.7 million in scholarships to 1,895 United Methodist students in 2024.
Your participation in supporting United Methodist Student Day, World Communion Sunday, and Native American Sunday helps to fund these scholarships. The remaining funds for these awards come from gifts, annuities, and endowments GBHEM has invested and administered for decades.
United Methodist Student Day is to be observed in local churches on any Sunday in May. Native American Sunday is scheduled for May 4, 2025, but can be observed on any Sunday that works for your church. World Communion Sunday will be observed on October 5, 2025. UMC Giving offers free Pastor and Leader Kits to promote these observances in your church.

These future leaders range from first-year students to doctorate-level students across the conference. One of these recipients, Emily Dodson, shared what this award means to her.
“Thank you for investing in me in a way that truly makes a difference in my education and future. The opportunity to be supported in this way has inspired me to commit to giving in ways that can support future students when I grow to a position to give in the way you have, giving forward to invest in the future of students. Thank you for your generosity and support.”
