MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission of the Peace with Justice Committee is:

  • To understand and respond to God’s call to do the things that make for peace, to make shalom and salaam – peace with justice – a reality.
  • To serve as leaders helping to advocate and establish alternatives to human injustice, violence and fear in the community.
  • To unite with others in interfaith coalitions to work for social, economic, racial and ecological justice and peace.
  • To support policies that promote systematic economic justice and the self-development of peoples.
  • To facilitate communications concerning peace with justice activities in local churches, districts, and the Annual Conference.

PEACE WITH JUSTICE COMMITTEE GUIDELINES

  • Proposal must fit with the Peace with Justice Mission Statement.
  • Proposal must meet a demonstrated need.
  • Proposal should include:
  • Detailed budget for the project.
  • Planning reflecting priorities, goals, realistic timeline, and measurable objectives

Preference will be given to:

  • New programs and initiatives.
  • Institutions or groups that are related to the United Methodist Church.
  • Proposals that include an advocacy component in their program/project.
  • Projects that have other sources of funding.

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY: March 31, 2010

Please use this format. Applications are to include the following information:

  1. Provide Mission Statement for the Project.
  2. Describe the program/project and its goals. How will/does the program encourage addressing public policy and advocacy?
  3. Include:
    • Amount of grant requested (not to exceed $5000.00)
    • Current project budget and projected budget
    • List all sources of funding and potential funds
  4. List contact person, name, address, telephone number, fax, and e-mail address.
  5. Who will be served or reached by the proposed program/project (gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.?
  6. How will you publicize the program/project to churches and agencies of the Annual Conference? And the results?
  7. For local churches:  Did you pay Apportionments in the previous year?  Was an offering taken for Peace with Justice Sunday? (A negative answer does not automatically disqualify you from a grant.)
  8. For ecumenical-based organizations/agencies: Indicate previous and current relationship to the United Methodist Church.
