{"id":11988,"date":"2013-07-02T08:38:41","date_gmt":"2013-07-02T12:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nccumc.org\/treasurer\/?p=11988"},"modified":"2022-11-04T11:28:57","modified_gmt":"2022-11-04T15:28:57","slug":"faith-and-money-health-care-reform-for-churches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nccumc.org\/treasurer\/2013\/07\/faith-and-money-health-care-reform-for-churches\/","title":{"rendered":"Faith and Money: Health Care Reform for Churches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are pleased that a bill has been introduced that will help to clarify the Affordable Care Act for churches!\u00a0 The General Board of Pension and Health Benefits (GBOPHB) actively follows the legislation and advocates for United Methodist churches and annual conferences in the process.\u00a0 For more information about the most recent step in health care reform in churches, take a look at the GBOPHB&#8217;s news release below.\u00a0 As we learn more about how this will develop for churches and active employee plans, we will be sure to keep you informed.<\/p>\n<p>Christine<\/p>\n<h2>Health Care Reform Update\u2014Church Health Plan Act of 2013 Introduced in Congress<\/h2>\n<p>On June 13, 2013, the Church Health Plan Act of 2013 (S. 1164) was introduced into the U.S. Senate. If passed, the bill would make technical corrections to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), which would help to strengthen church health plans.<\/p>\n<p>The General Board, as part of the Church Alliance, actively supports this legislation. The General Board may contact conference officers in outreach efforts around the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about the proposed legislation and its potential impact on annual conferences, local churches
