Why don\u2019t the amounts match?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Beginning January 1, 2026, the United Methodist Church transitioned to the\u00a0<strong>Compass Retirement Plan<\/strong>, a defined contribution plan that replaced the Clergy Retirement Security Program (CRSP).<\/p>\n<p>Under the Compass Plan, clergy receive three types of retirement contributions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>4% matching contribution<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>3% non-matching contribution<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>A flat contribution of $150 per month<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To fund these benefits, local churches are billed\u00a0<strong>10% of their pastor\u2019s plan compensation<\/strong>\u00a0for pension costs. This 10% rate is a\u00a0<strong>blended funding rate<\/strong>\u00a0used across the conference.<\/p>\n<p>Because one part of the benefit is a\u00a0<strong>flat $150 monthly contribution<\/strong>, the amount deposited into an individual pastor\u2019s account will not usually equal exactly 10% of their compensation. Some churches effectively fund slightly more than their pastor\u2019s individual benefit and others slightly less.<\/p>\n<p>Across the entire conference, however, the\u00a0<strong>total amount billed to churches collectively covers the full cost of all clergy Compass Plan contributions<\/strong>.
