Winter Soulstice: “Monastic Spirituality: Learning Love, Prayer and Theology from the Desert Fathers and Mothers” with Dr. Roberta Bondi, February 7-8, 2014 at St. Marks United Methodist Church, Raleigh, NC.
The Desert Fathers and Mothers have much to teach contemporary Christians and Roberta Bondi, as a church historian, uses the wisdom of monastic spirituality to help us learn prayer, love and Theology.
Roberta earned her Masters and PhD in Philosophy from Oxford and BA from Southern Methodist University. A retired professor from Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Bondi has written several books including, To Pray and To Love, To Love as God Loves, In Ordinary Time and Nick the Cat. Roberta loves knitting scarves, sweaters and her cats. Roberta will bring her knitting, wisdom and humor to our community.
During this retreat you will get acquainted with the early monastics who went to the desert to observe and preserve the traditions and teachings of early Christians. You will learn their names, what they said and how it applies to us today. Roberta Bondi is a master teacher who blends information, inspiration and spiritual formation into her teaching.
