Every person has dignity and potential. Still, one in four American adults has a criminal record, limiting their access to education, jobs, housing, and other things they need to reach that potential. In addition to widespread social stigma, more than 48,000 documented legal restrictions weigh down those with a criminal record.
The North Carolina Conference Restorative Justice and Mercy Ministry Team has identified the month of April as “Second Chance Month.” Reflecting the Easter message of redemption that is available to all through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we hope to remind church members that people who are coming out of incarceration have served their time and deserve a second chance.
There will be free multigenerational resources for churches to use, including videos, Bible studies, sermon prompts, and even coloring pages for children.
Pastors, please mark your calendar for a conference-wide worship service available on April 11 to use in churches for the Sunday after Easter.
We will post details on the resources as they become available.
