You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion. (2 Corinthians 9:11)
When we launched the conference Imagine No Malaria Campaign, the steering committee announced a bold challenge. We dreamed that we would raise $ 1 million for INM in our annual conference. This would provide 100,000 malaria nets in Central Africa. Our contribution would literally save tens of thousands of lives.
Early on, we decided that this would be a “movement” style campaign; we would simply present the cause and urge churches and individuals to use their creativity and care to do fund raisers and take offerings.
As a leader in the campaign, I realized that the only way this would work for me would be if I sincerely trusted the generosity of God’s people. I prayed for the campaign every day. I literally opened my hand every day during prayer time. Over the period of the campaign, I felt a quiet confidence that God was hearing my prayer. It was amazing.
Paul says that we will be enriched in every way. This is no simplistic prosperity gospel. We are enriched so that we might be generous in every way. Do you trust the generosity of God’s people? I have learned to, and it is a liberating experience. Want to be a free and happy actor in this fallen world? Discover again the power of generosity.
