African American Clergy Health Summit cancelled
The African American Clergy Health Summit that was scheduled for Sept. 24-27 at Lake Junaluska has been cancelled.
UMM Duke Day information updates
“Share the Game, Share your Faith,” is a community outreach event sponsored by the NCC UM Men during the Duke/Army football game in Durham on Sept. 25. Local UMM units are encouraged to reach out to local youth groups to sponsor participation in the event. The cost is $20 per person and includes the pre-game event, lunch, and game ticket. The day will begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration and worship at Asbury UMC in Durham. For other updated information, go to UMM Duke Day.
Registration open for Lay Academy of Christian Witness
The Commission on Evangelism will be holding the LAY Academy of Christian Witness on Oct. 21-23 at Camp Rockfish. The cost is $25 per person. Due to the desire to include several churches in this training, a maximum of 3 persons per church may attend. (This event is for first- time adult lay participants. Space is limited.) Financial seminar registration deadline is Friday
Attend the Financial Planning Seminar for clergy in their early and middle years of ministry. Get answers to questions like “Am I providing enough financial security for my family?,” “How do I prepare a will?,” “How can I improve my credit?” and much more. The 5K Pumpkin Run and 1 Mile Walk
On Saturday, Oct. 23, the 4th Annual Great Pumpkin Run to support the ministry of DISCIPLE Bible Outreach, will be held on the lawn of Jamestown UMC in Jamestown, NC. Registration begins at 8 a.m and the 5k run begins at 8:30. One-mile walkers begin at 8:45 a.m. Consider this a chance to get out in the fresh air, support DBOM and exercise in the crisp autumn air. World Communion Sunday – October 3
World Communion Sunday is one of the six church-wide Special Sundays of The United Methodist Church. It is celebrated on the first Sunday in October, but can be observed at a time convenient for a congregation. For more information including observance literature, worship materials, and on-line giving, go to World Communion. Dates for the observance are Oct. 3, 2010; Oct. 2, 2011, and Oct. 7, 2012.
Pilgrimage – November 12-14
Youth leaders, it is time to be planning for youth groups to attend Pilgrimage 2010 at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville. The keynote speaker will be Bart Campolo and the Pilgrimage House Band will provide music. Pilgrimage is a time for youth and youth leaders to share worship, service, fellowship, and fun. Project AGAPE director to visit North Carolina
Project AGAPE director and missionary, Nara Melkonyan, will be itinerating in the NC Conference from Oct. 20 – Nov. 8. She is available to speak at worship services, UMW groups, UMM gathers, Sunday school classes, Wednesday night fellowship gatherings, mission and ministry team gatherings, and other venues. CPI application deadline approaching
Comprehensive Plan of Inclusiveness (CPI) grant applications are due no later than Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. (if hand-delivered to the Methodist Building) or postmarked no later than Sept. 30. No faxed applications will be considered and all must have the appropriate signatures. Plan ahead – do not wait until the due date to gather signatures! To download the application, go to CPI Grant. Multicultural Conference at Lake Junaluska Dec. 2-4
The Multicultural Conference is designed to increase awareness and appreciation in church and the world for the richness of diversity. The Multicultural Team of the NC Conference will pay the early bird registration fee of $129 for the first 20 persons who complete the application and mail it to the NC Conference, P.O. Order of Deacons will meet on September 30 in Cary
A Gathering of the Order of Deacons will be held on Thursday, Sept. 30 at St. Francis UMC in Cary. The day will begin with a gathering at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided with a suggested donation of $5 per person. The day will conclude by 3 p.m.

10-Fold – Global Connections in the Life of Jesus
10-Fold is about multiplying ministry and mobilizing passionate people to stand up and be counted. The event will launch Oct.10 and last for 10 days. Every day will focus on a different project supported through The Advance, the designated giving arm of The United Methodist Church.
