Academy for Leadership Excellence seeking Executive Director
The Academy for Leadership Excellence received the resignation of Brian Gentle as executive director effective Aug. 18. A search committee has been appointed and a posting of the position will be forthcoming on the Academy for Leadership Excellence website http://www.theafle.org/.
Local church treasurer training scheduled in December
Local church treasurer and finance committee training will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the United Methodist Building, 700 Waterfield Ridge Pl., Garner. Local church finance basics will be covered as well as updates from recent legislative changes. Local church treasurers, finance committee members and pastors are encouraged to attend. Seats are limited so registration is required. There will be a $10 registration fee charged to help offset the cost of training materials and lunch. Dads, Lads, and Gals weekend at Camp Rockfish
Dads, bring your sons and daughters and come join us at Camp Rockfish for our Dads. Lads and Gals weekend Oct. 12-14. It will be a special weekend for dads and their children to spend enjoying all that Camp Rockfish has to offer. Meals will be served from Saturday breakfast through Sunday breakfast with a special late-night campfire meal after arriving Friday night. Enjoy all traditional Camp Rockfish activities including canoeing, archery, kayaking, arts & crafts, environmental education, climbing tower, and zip-line. Worship Celebration welcoming Bishop Ward is scheduled
A worship service celebrating the assignment of Bishop Hope Morgan Ward as resident bishop of the North Carolina Conference will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, at Edenton Street UMC in Raleigh, beginning at 4 p.m. After the service, a reception will be held in Kerr Hall so attendees may greet Bishop Ward and her husband, Mike Ward.
The service is open to all conference clergy and laypersons and other interested individuals. Officials at Edenton Street UMC have suggested that the parking deck, one block east of the church, 100 W. Edenton St., can be used by anyone attending the celebration.
Small Church Vitality topic for event
Hinton Rural Life Center is hosting “Discerning the Way: Preaching and Small Church Vitality” with Dr. Lew Parks, starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and adjourning by 12 noon on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Lew Parks is professor of theology, ministry, and congregational development at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, where he also directs the doctor of ministry program. This discussion will explore how the task of preaching and the role of preacher within the small membership church are integral to vibrant ministry and church vitality.
