connections: Sabbath as Resistance
In this video, Bishop Ward reminds us of the significance of Sabbath and how this simple act can be counter cultural, like many of Jesus’ acts during his time on earth. To learn more about this concept of Sabbath consider attending Duke Divinity School’s 2014 Convocation: October 13-14.

Register for the workshop, Reaching Younger Adults
The church is reaching a small percentage of what is now a large demographic in the US, young adults between the ages of 18 and 35. While some are students attending schools away from home, some are starting careers or families in places where churches are longing for more young people. How do we connect with this group? How do we prepare the church to be a welcome center, a place of nurture and support, a place where these young people can live out their faith and lead others to Jesus Christ? Take a closer look at the opportunity that awaits.

UMF Encourages you to elect a Legacy Leader
The NC Annual Conference passed a resolution in 2006 to establish a position of Legacy Leader in each local church to be charged with learning about planned giving options and developing an ongoing endowment and planned giving initiative within the congregation. The United Methodist Foundation is equipped to provide hands on training for this leadership position. A position description and a suggested list of leadership qualities for an effective Legacy Leader can be found on the United Methodist Foundation website. This year be sure to elect a Legacy Leader at your next charge conference.
