Duke Clergy Health Initiative/Spirited Life
Now through Oct. 31, the Duke Clergy Health Initiative is enrolling clergy in Spirited Life, its holistic health and wellness program/study. The program is offered free of charge to most United Methodist clergy in North Carolina. Funded by The Duke Endowment and cast within a framework of Wesleyan theology and spirituality, Spirited Life will provide clergy with the tools needed to manage stress; learn to care for the body in a healthy, mindful way; and find spiritual renewal. Local Church Treasurer/Finance Training offered in November
Local church treasurer and finance committee training will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the United Methodist Building in Garner. Local church finance basics will be covered as well as updates from recent legislative changes. Local church treasurers, finance committee members and pastors are encouraged to attend. Read more.
Conference to participate in dialogue with other denominations
There will be a planning meeting to pursue the possibilities of North Carolina conversation among the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, The Episcopal Church, and The United Methodist Church. The session will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 30 at Mebane UMC. The church is at 200 South Fourth St. in Mebane.
Children’s Choir Festival scheduled for NC Conference
A children’s choir festival will be held on Saturday, Feb.19, from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Saint Francis UMC in Cary. Heather Potter, associate conductor of the Charlotte Children’s Choir, the conductor of its Lyric Choir, and a member of the Chorister’s Guild Board of Directors, will be the clinician working with children in the age range of 2nd – 6th grades. 2010 Pilgrimage-Youth Leaders Register Your Groups Now
Get all the details at NCC Pilgrimage. Download the registration form, fill it out, and mail it in. Group pre-registration ends Oct. 25. After Oct. 25, a $25 fee is added per group registration. Date change for Family Fun Run at Camp Chestnut Ridge
The date for the Family Fun Run to be held at Chestnut Ridge Camp & Retreat Center in Efland, has been changed to Nov. 20. This race is to help benefit the “Pass It On” Annual Fund which supports the camping ministry’s programs, enhances facilities and equipment and helps send children and youth to camp through the campership scholarship program. Methodist University to host a Wesley Heritage Seminar
Methodist University will host a “Wesley Heritage Seminar” Nov. 12-13, in the Medical Lecture Hall, the newest addition of the Physician Assistant (PA) Program Complex on the campus of Methodist University. The seminar will include a screening of “Wesley,” panel discussions, and a celebration of the Moravian Love Feast. The cost for attending the screening and panel discussion on either day is $5.00, and all events are open to the public. Following the screening Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m., there will be a question and answer period with the producer, the Rev. John Jackman, and actor Burgess Jenkins. Saturday’s events will include a matinee of the full-length movie at 2 p.m., followed by a panel presentation and discussion. “Wesley” is a film based closely on the actual events of the life of John Wesley. The film captures the tragedy of Wesley’s love life, as well as the controversy that surrounded his ministry. Housing information for members to Annual Conference
Due to the conference contract with the Raleigh Convention Center and the incentive that they have offered to the NC Conference, all members of Annual Conference are encouraged to make reservations at one of the recommended hotels located downtown. To receive the incentive, the conference must meet a 500 room occupancy for at least one night between June 15, 2011 and June 18, 2011. Read more.
United Methodist Student Day is Nov. 28
Nearly 1,000 United Methodists who qualified for a scholarship this year walked away empty-handed, and even more students are expected to be disappointed in 2011 unless giving to United Methodist scholarship funds increases dramatically.
