Stop Hunger Now – Operation Sharehouse Eventat Annual Conference 2010
On Thursday evening, June 10, during the dinner break at Annual Conference, Stop Hunger Now will guide food packaging in Ballroom B in the Hilton Hotel, adjacent to the Convention Center. The dehydrated food product is ready for packaging and the goal is 20,000 meals packaged between 5 – 7:30 p.m. As volunteers fast to prepare food for those who have too little, they also are asked to contribute the cost of the missed meal for the shipping abroad.
Early Response Training Sessions at MERCI
Natural disasters happen. It’s not if, but when. The North Carolina Conference is in need of UMCOR Early Response trained personnel. To help alleviate this need, MERCI Center is hosting training sessions to increase the level of preparedness. Basic Early Response Team training will be June 4. Rural church pastors – register early for Convocation on the Rural Church
Pastors of rural churches that are eligible for Duke Endowment grants are invited to register to attend the 2010 Convocation on the Rural Church: The Grace of Rural Ministry. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. In the past, this event has filled quickly so early registration is advised. This event will be held Aug. 23-25 at the Embassy Suites Ocean-Front Hotel in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and will bring together leaders from rural North Carolina churches, Duke Divinity School, The Duke Endowment, and both United Methodist Conferences in North Carolina for worship, plenary sessions, workshops, and conversation about the rural church and how it can engage in even more vibrant ministry and mission. UMB Staff preparing to move
The United Methodist Building will be closed on Thursday, May 27, to allow staff to participate in the 2010 Go Green: Productive Environments Day. This day is geared to clearing clutter and organizing business files in preparation for the upcoming move to the new facility in late June 2010. Phone calls will be received through voice mail on Thursday, May 27, and will be returned on Friday, May 28.
Trail Hike Registration Deadline June 7
The registration deadline for the Appalachian Trail Hike for high school youth is June 7. The Trail Hike will leave from the new Methodist Building in Garner on Saturday, July 10 and will return Saturday, July 17. The week includes hiking and camping along approximately 50 miles of the Appalachian Trail.
