Conference history to be celebrated in Warren County
Methodism in Warren County began in 1772 with circuit riders preaching in farm yards, fields and forests along the Roanoke River. Join the festivities to celebrate this history on Saturday, May 23, beginning at 10:30 a.m. There will be a dinner on the grounds in the Apple Yard (1010 Hinton Mill Road, Boydton, VA 23917, Smith Creek on Lake Gaston) where Bobby and Janie Coley’s restored 1800’s farm house stands. Gospel singing and historical anecdotes, will be followed by a noon-time carry in meal. Brunswick stew, BBQ chicken and a pig-picking will be provided. Bring side dishes and desserts. At 1 p.m., a circuit rider, the Rev. Mack McMillan, will arrive on horseback to preach in the farm yard. Anyone planning to attend should contact Laura Bailey by Thursday, May 21.

AC Briefing Session on the Internet
Videos from an Annual Conference Briefing Session are available on the Conference website, NCCUMC.ORG.  Under “Resources,” visit the “Video Room.” The two hour presentation has been divided by presentation into five videos. Annual Conference is June 10-13 in the Greenville Convention Center.

Trail Hike registration deadline
The registration deadline for the Appalachian Trail Hike for high school youth is Friday, May 22. This deadline applies to the postmark date. The Trail Hike will be June 20-27 and involves backpacking and camping along approximately 50 miles of the Appalachian Trail. The registration form can be found in the 2009 Youth Events brochure which is available for download at Youth.

Ethnic Youth Scholarships for ACS
Thanks to a CPI grant, there are a limited number of scholarships for ethnic youth to attend ACS this summer. ACS will be July 20-25 at Methodist University in Fayetteville. The scholarships pay the full amount of the registration and will be awarded on a first-come first- served basis. To receive the application form, e-mail Robin Harry at Robin Harry with a regular mailing address. Note: there will be limited scholarship funds available from a general scholarship fund (supported by YSF) for financial assistance to attend Conference youth events based on financial need after this CPI grant is fully utilized. This scholarship fund is available to any youth and requires a separate application.

Musicians and worship artists to meet in July
IMAGINATION 2009, the national convocation of The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts (FUMMWA) in conjunction with The United Methodist General Board of Discipleship (GBOD), will be held July 13-16 at the Hilton Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL. More information about the schedule, leadership and registration is available at  UMFellowship or by contacting the national Fellowship office at or 1-800-952-8977.

New clergy pictorial directory
All clergy should visit the Olan Mills Studio location at Annual Conference in the Greenville Convention Center to have photographs taken for a new pictorial directory.  Look for the announcement of the specific location at conference.  The spouse can be included in a photograph but several photographs must be taken only of the person under Episcopal appointment.
