Conference history to be celebrated in Warren County
Methodism in Warren County began in 1772 with circuit riders preaching in farm yards, fields and forests along the Roanoke River. Join the festivities to celebrate this history on Saturday, May 23, beginning at 10:30 a.m. There will be a dinner on the grounds in the Apple Yard (1010 Hinton Mill Road, Boydton, VA 23917, Smith Creek on Lake Gaston) where Bobby and Janie Coley’s restored 1800’s farm house stands. Gospel singing and historical anecdotes, will be followed by a noon-time carry in meal. Brunswick stew, BBQ chicken and a pig-picking will be provided. Bring side dishes and desserts. At 1 p.m., a circuit rider, the Rev. Mack McMillan, will arrive on horseback to preach in the farm yard. Anyone planning to attend should contact Laura Bailey by Thursday, May 21.
