School of Congregational Development in North Carolina
Conference leaders, pastors and laity can learn the best practices for revitalizing congregations and starting new churches at the School of Congregational Development 2014 (SCD 2014) Aug. 14-17 in Matthews, NC. Bishops, conference staff, district superintendents, pastors and lay leaders are expected to attend SCD 2014, which will be hosted at Matthews UMC in suburban Charlotte. The theme of this year’s event is THE RACE: Strategies for Relevant, Authentic Christ-centered Engagement with the world. SCD 2014 is sponsored by GBOD, New Church Starts (Path 1) and the General Board of Global Ministries. Edgardo Colón-Emeric, assistant professor of Christian Theology and founding director of the Hispanic House of Studies at Duke Divinity School, and a member of the NC Conference, will be one of the plenary speakers.
