Retirement Planning Seminar Deadline approaching!
Only one week until registration closes for the Pre-Retirement Planning Seminar. This event will be held on Thursday, April 23rd – Friday, April 24th at the Little River Golf Resort in Carthage. The topics addressed will help prepare clergy anticipating retirement within ten years. Experience has shown that when clergy families have a good handle on their financial condition and future plans, then ministry is enhanced as the burdens of financial worries are lessened. Marva Dawn to address conference clergy
Dr. Marva J. Dawn will address the clergy of the North Carolina Conference on April 27, at Jarvis Memorial UMC in Greenville. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Order of Elders, the Order of Deacons, and the Fellowship of Local Pastors and Associate Members, all elders, deacons, and local pastors of the conference are encouraged to attend. The theme for the day will be “Pastoral Ministry: Our Life Together.” It will address many of the challenges, joys, and temptations found in pastoral ministry today; and will call for a covenantal response from all the clergy present.
A River Deep and Wide, Christian Spiritual Practice for the 21st Century
Registration is now underway for a conference co-sponsored by The Academy for Spiritual Formation and the Upper Room, called “A River Deep and Wide.” There are special rates for persons registering before March 6. Living Faith, Seeking Justice: Reclaiming Social Holiness
This Living Faith, Seeking Justice Conference will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 27-28 at First UMC in North Andover, MA. Tex Sample, Professor Emeritus of Church and Society at Saint Paul School of Theology, will be the keynote speaker. The conference is intended to connect persons passionate about moving the church into the ministry of peace and justice. It will provide resources to help individuals and congregations move toward a ministry of social justice in their specific context. Church and Society Peace with Justice Grant Application Available
Congregations engaged in any of the following ministries are invited to apply for a Peace with Justice Grant: advocate and establish alternatives to human injustice, violence and fear; working for economic, racial, or ecological justice; or establishing ministries to help the poor to eradicate poverty. Applications are due March 31 to the Office of Mission and Justice Ministries. Application guidelines are available on-line at: Peace with Justice grant.
One Great Hour of Sharing Sunday is March 22
One Great Hour of Sharing Sunday is one of the six Special Sundays designated in The Discipline. This offering supports the administrative work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), which ensures that 100% of designated giving goes directly to specific projects. Unlike other mission programs, UMCOR receives no World Service or other apportionment money. This is why faithful support of the One Great Hour of Sharing offering is crucial. Youth Rally Day
Conference Youth Rally Day will be Sunday, April 26 from 3-6pm at NC Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. More information is available at Rally Day. Pre-registration to attend is not required; however, any youth group wishing to offer an act of worship in the worship service or sponsor a recreation activity must register that information by Monday, April 6.
