2012 United Methodist Full Connection Seminar
Duke Divinity School is introducing a new format to its United Methodist Full Connection Seminar, offered Sept.10-11, which offers provisional members practical and timely support in preparing for ordination. For the first time, participants will have advance access to 10 video-based lectures given by divinity school faculty that address the traditional Disciplinary questions for ordination. While on campus, participants will discuss the lectures, receive critiques of their ordination paper drafts, participate in conversations with annual conference officials, and engage in worship and community-building. Whether you’ve been a United Methodist for five decades or five weeks, you may be surprised at all there is to discover about our denomination. United Methodism 101 is designed for new church members and anyone else wanting to know more about the denomination and its history, teachings and structure. This is an online course and registration is open through April 2.
Unity Dialogue in two days
The next Unity Dialogue will be Thursday, March 22, 4-6:30 p.m., at Fairmont UMC in Raleigh. The purpose of The Unity Dialogue is to equip the saints to listen to, and to speak, the truth in love about difficult topics, particularly regarding the Church and homosexuality. Suggested readings to prepare for this discussion would be Par 161 Nurturing Community, and New Recognition of Same Gender Relationships.
Is Moodle just a funny word?
Moodle Best Practices is a great way to explore what churches can do with Moodle. This online course is hands-on and will show how to facilitate dynamic online learning experiences for members and seekers. More information and registration can be found here. Deadline April 3.
A Few Spots Left for the Clergy Academy of Christian Witness
Clergy across the Annual Conference are invited to apply for the Academy of Christian Witness 2012. The Academy is a powerful and transformation event with a proven track record of professions of faith for congregations that have participated. The Academy runs from the afternoon of April 17 to the morning of April 19. It is a Spirit-filled 48 hours of worship, information, and encouragement for pastors, which equips them to lead congregations to go and make disciples of all the world. It has an all new curriculum for 2012 reflecting current research and information about evangelism. Please visit nccumcevangelism.org for registration materials. Schedule A Visit from Frido
Frido Kinkolenge, a United Methodist missionary who works to improve the lives of children and families in Liberia, will be visiting churches in the North Carolina Annual Conference after General Conference this year. Frido will be in NC from April 30 through May 28. To schedule Frido for a visit to your church to explain his ministry, please contact Rev. News Briefs is a conference communications tool to connect local churches with the conference, jurisdiction, and the General church. The e-mail newsletter is sent weekly with announcements, event notices and dates to remember.
