Worship & Music Director Sought for 2016 General Conference
The Commission on the General Conference is seeking a worship and music director for The United Methodist Church’s 2016 General Conference. The deadline for applying is Aug. 19, 2013. The top legislative body for the 12 million-member denomination will meet May 10-20, 2016, at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, OR. The worship and music director is responsible for the overall worship and music program management at General Conference. The NC Conference Christian Advocate is available online free of charge for the July/August, September, and October issues. This would include the 28-page Annual Conference Wrap-Up edition. Many congregations in the North Carolina Conference are already deeply involved in wonderful ministry with local schools. The Conference would like to know what your congregation is doing, what some of the barriers to such ministry are, and other information. UMComm Produces Documentary About Malaria
To win the battle against malaria, the church must spread the word. “A Killer in the Dark,” is a documentary produced by United Methodist Communications and narrated by “NCIS” star Pauley Perrette about how mosquitoes destroy lives. It is airing on NBC stations across the United States. Check the list of stations scheduled to broadcast this documentary. If it hasn’t been scheduled in your area, please contact your local NBC station today and ask for it to be aired between now and Nov. 3. Please spread the word to your family and friends and ask them join the cause. If it has already aired in your area, you can order a free copy of the “A Killer in the Dark” DVD. Plan a viewing party for your congregation, friends and family as well as other community groups to watch the documentary together. Download ideas and resources to get started. Impact Challenge for Youth July 26-28
Impact Challenge, July 26-28, is a youth weekend filled with Christian music, testimonies, worship, and the premiere of a new faith-based feature film, “Jackson’s Run.” The movie’s cast and producers will attend, and worship will include the soundtrack band, Second Perception, Jordan River and Footstool. On Sunday, a closing worship service will feature more amazing music and youth testimonials. The event will be at Norris Creek Outdoor Complex, 751 Old Halifax Rd. Louisburg, NC.
