Bishop Ward in the Philippines with young people
In this week’s Connections, Bishop Ward reminds viewers/readers of all the ways youth and young adults are responding to their call to ministry and mission in the NC Conference.

Hear Bishop Ward’s commissioning sermon online
Bishop Ward is in the Philippines with 42 young adults from 11 countries who are being prepared for service as Generation Transformation Global Mission Fellows. Hear the bishop preach at the commissioning service for young missionaries on July 18 at 8 p.m. at www.umcmission.org/live.

Responding to crisis with prayer and compassion
As Christians, we are challenged to respond with prayer and compassion to the thousands of unaccompanied minors crossing the Southern border into the United States, regardless of our position on immigration. Bishop Ward joins UM Bishop Minerva Carcano (California-Nevada Conference) in inviting all to join in an Interfaith Weekend of Compassion and Prayer for Unaccompanied Migrant Children, July 18-19, from sunrise to sunset.
The Corridor District is organizing a collection of underwear and socks for women and children for shipment to the Brownsville/Mexico border. The drop-off place is Sanctuary/Lakewood UMC at 2317 Chapel Hill Rd., Durham on Saturday July 26, from 9 a.m.-12 noon. If you need to drop off items before July 26, contact the Rev. Rosanna Panizo at 919-824-9202 to make arrangements. Please include the requested items only: underwear for children and women (all sizes) and/or socks for children and women (all sizes). For more information, go to response.

Stewardship seminar for new pastors
Pastors in their first appointment are part of a Stewardship Seminar presented by the Conference Committee on Financial Discipleship. The summer seminar will be August 16, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. Lunch is included.
The NC Conference Cabinet has deemed the topic of stewardship to be crucial and therefore considers participation in the Stewardship Seminar to be mandatory. In the past, this seminar has been 2-3 days and required overnight stays. The Financial Discipleship Committee has changed the format to include short one-day events in locations that should be easily accessible. The focus of this seminar is “Building the Church Budget and Developing a Culture of Stewardship.” Please go to the Financial Discipleship webpage for more information and registration links.
