Bishop Ward introduces discipleship learning plan
In this week’s Connections, Bishop Ward introduces the Clergy Discipleship and Learning Plan, which is designed for learning and growing in community with others. It is not participation in a one-time learning event or seminar. To see the plan and the resources, go to Discipleship.
Clergy reminded to update contact information
Clergy office and home addresses and phone numbers need to be correct in the 2013 Conference Directory and for Conference mailings throughout the year. All pastors, but particularly those who have changed appointments, should go online and update the addresses and other contact information by July 5. If you have questions or need assistance with this, please contact email@example.com in the Conference Secretary’s Office for assistance.
Survey online to assess church-school involvement
Many congregations in the North Carolina Conference are already deeply involved in wonderful ministry with local schools. The Conference would like to know what your congregation is doing, what some of the barriers to such ministry are, and other information. Please take the short survey at the link below and help us better connect resources and uplift stories of celebration. The Ministry with Schools survey should take 10 minutes or less.

A Healthier NC offers resources to churches
North Carolina ranks among the bottom third in state health rankings. Approximately 28 percent of the adult population is obese and 10 percent of the adult population is diabetic. One in three North Carolina children are considered overweight or obese, a disturbing indicator of future chronic disease. A Healthier NC was created with the purpose of addressing these and other NC health challenges. Along with physical and mental health, many North Carolinians recognize spiritual health as a key component to good health. Churches and faith communities are encouraged to explore the resources at A Healthier NC to see how to bridge issues of faith and health together, seeking to provide people of faith the tools necessary to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Disciple Bible Outreach Ministry Special Offering
On Sunday, Aug. 25, a special Sunday offering will be received in North Carolina United Methodist churches to support the ministry of Disciple Bible Outreach. Offering envelopes will be mailed to all pastors in early August. If envelopes are not received by Aug. 15, please call 336-454-5348 or email Laura Hicks at firstname.lastname@example.org. This offering provides funding for over half of DBOM’s annual budgetary needs. Please prayerfully consider how your church can support the ongoing mission of making disciples in the prisons and the pews of North Carolina.
