The NC Conference Imagines No Malaria
In this week’s Connections, Bishop Ward encourages viewers/readers to get excited and involved in the conference initiative to raise $1 million to eradicate malaria.

Share Your Thoughts about AC 2014
The Conference Secretary’s office values feedback about the 2014 Annual Conference. If you attended the 2014 Annual Conference, please complete the 2014 AC survey, which is open until July 15. This information will help guide the planning for next year’s conference in Wilmington, June 10-13, 2015.

True Resiliency: Transforming Pastoral Stress into Ministry Success
The Davidson Clergy Center is offering pastors an interactive seminar which explores how holistic health – including the often undernourished emotional and spiritual dimensions – is garnered in spite of the stressors unique to ministry professionals. Michael E. Hall, Ph.D, will lead the seminar, Aug. 12 or Sept. 18 (choose one date), at the Davidson Center in Davidson, NC. For seminar details and registration, go to True Resiliency and scroll down to find this event.

New Class of Disciple-Making Way Opening Enrollment
The schedule and registration is now online for churches desiring to participate in year three of the Disciple-Making Way. Disciple-Making Way prepares churches for effectively fulfilling the call to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Participating churches develop a plan for ministry and mission that will produce followers of Jesus within and beyond the membership of the church. A new format will be introduced for this season, with four summits that bring together all the churches enrolled, and assigned work in between for local church teams to complete with the assistance of a coach. Registration information is at Disciple-Making Way.

Grants Available to Churches for Older Adult Ministries
Grants from the UM Committee on Older Adult Ministries will be awarded this fall to local churches with ideas for creative ministries involving older adults who are facing poverty issues. A total of $75,000 will be awarded through these “Aging in Poverty Ministry Grants” for churches to use as seed money. Grant applications must be postmarked by Aug. 18. To find details and a link to the application, go to Aging in Poverty Ministry grants.

50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act
United Methodists were on the frontlines of the civil rights struggle. Did you participate in Freedom Summer 1964? Where were you in July 1964 when Congress passed the Civil Rights Act?
As the nation approaches the 50th anniversary of President Lyndon Johnson signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 on July 2, UM News Service is asking persons to share their thoughts and remembrances of this landmark period in US history. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It ended unequal application of voter registration requirements and racial segregation in schools, at the workplace and by facilities that served the general public.
UM News Service will post your stories. Please send your written reflection, 200-300 words, to newsdesk@umcom.org. Photos are also welcome.
