Gathering of Elders to be March 1 in Raleigh
The Order of Elders planning team and the Academy of Leadership Excellence, have announced that the annual Gathering of Elders will be on Monday, March 1, at Edenton Street UMC in Raleigh. Alan Hirsch, the founding director of Forge Mission Training Network, will speak on “ReJesus and the Shape of Things to Come.” Because of the joint nature of this event, preregistration is necessary as well as a registration fee of $25. read more
Conference-Wide Walking Journey Begins January 31
The NC Conference Walking Program, Amazing Pace, will start the first 11-week, themed, virtual Journey of 2011 on Monday, Jan. 31. Eligible participants can join in the walking program at anytime. However, to be eligible to receive the cash incentive for completing this first journey, participants must enroll by Jan. 31. Disciple Bible Outreach Ministry going national
Responding to God’s call and bolstered by encouragement and support from the United Methodist Connectional Table and the General Commission on UM Men, Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries is expanding. In 2011, expansions are planned in five states. Work is already underway in Virginia, Kansas and Tennessee. Work is planned for the Baltimore/Washington area and the state of Georgia later in the year. “We are very excited about this project,” said Dr. Mark Hicks, DBOM of NC Executive Director and President of the new national movement. read more

The 2010 North Carolina Conference Journal, on CD, is being mailed to clergy and lay members of the Annual Conference Jan. 24-28. “Holistic Stewardship” with Mike Slaughter to be offered in April
The NC Conference Stewardship Commission and Academy for Leadership Excellence are partnering to offer a one day workshop on April 5 entitled “Holistic Stewardship: Reinvigorating Your Church’s Efforts to Serve.” The workshop will be lead by Rev. Dr. Mike Slaughter, lead pastor of Ginghamsburg Church in Ohio. UM Publishing House launches first mobile application
Looking for a mobile daily Bible study? There is an app for that, and it is currently free. The UM Publishing House’s (UMPH) Daily Bible Study is now just a click or touch away. Daily Bible Study is available for iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch devices. The application offers a daily thought, Scripture reading, commentary, and prayer and allows you to share content with friends via Facebook, Twitter, or email. UMPH’s first mobile application is free through February in the iTunes store (search for “daily Bible study”) or go to Daily Bible Study. Beginning March 1, the Daily Bible Study application will be available for $4.99 per quarter.
Workteam to Armenia scheduled for September
A mission workteam is being organized to do work in Armenia as part of the North Carolina Conference support of Project AGAPE. The team is a combined construction and medical team to the town of Bedzor, Armenia. The trip is scheduled to be approximately two weeks in length and is planned for the Sept. 1-20, 2011 time frame. read more.
Music concert will benefit ZOE
On Sunday, Jan. 30, gospel artist Rod Propes will headline a benefit concert for ZOE Ministry at 5 p.m. at Fuquay-Varina UMC. ZOE Ministry is an organization dedicated to empowering orphans in Africa. The church is located at 100 S Judd Pkwy SE, Fuquay-Varina.
