Rockfish 3rd Annual Adventure Run
Start training now for Rockfish’s 3rd Annual Adventure Run on April 27! All proceeds benefit programs and camperships (the scholarship program for campers who wouldn’t normally be able to afford coming to summer camp). Entry fee is $25 per runner, which covers the race fee as well as a race t-shirt. Runners will encounter 8-12 obstacles, barriers and challenges as they make their way. Faith and Rural Life Conference to feature Bishop Willimon
Mount Olive College is hosting the 3rd annual ecumenical Faith and Rural Life: Down to Earth Ministry Conference on March 4, from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. The theme for this year’s conference is“Growing Food, Growing Faith, Growing Community.” United Methodist Bishop and Duke Divinity School Professor, Will Willimon, will serve as preacher and keynote speaker, and the day will include workshops related to the theme, including a panel of area farmers and a presentation by the children of farmworkers. All persons are welcome. Participants may register either online or at the door for a cost of $10 and one canned food item. UM Communications to offer online courses
United Methodist Communications is offering two online courses, “Web Ministry 101” and “Welcoming Ministry 101.” Each course includes six weeks of instruction. A course facilitator will respond to your work and answer questions via forums. A limited number of virtual seats are available and are first come, first serve. DISCIPLE Training event in Durham
DISCIPLE Bible Outreach Ministries is sponsoring a training event for persons desiring to be a DISCIPLE facilitator. This event will be at Calvary UMC in Durham this Friday evening, March 1, from 6-8 p.m. To register, go to DBOM. Seeking nominations for “Culture to Call” churches
The Foundation for Evangelism, a United Methodist ministry, is seeking nominations for the Culture of Call Church award. The award recognizes a United Methodist congregation that encourages young people to respond to God’s call to full-time Christian service. The deadline for submitting a nomination form is April 1.
Church revitalization event in April
“Fan the Flame,” a three-day small church revitalization workshop will be held April 12-13 at the Bladen Charge. The workshop will focus on the areas of effective preaching, dynamic worship, children and youth ministry, mission outreach, spiritual formation and discipleship. It will be jointly led by clergy and laity who have shared in the growth of this Charge’s worship attendance from 80 to 300 people over the past 16 years. Individual churches are invited to send a team of a pastor and up to three laypersons to participate. The registration cost for each church team (which includes housing, meals, and workshop materials) is $75 before March 10, and $150 thereafter. Registration will close on April 5. “Fan the Flame” is co-sponsored by the Conference Committee on Evangelism, The Duke Endowment and Duke Divinity School’s Thriving Rural Communities Initiative.
