Scholarships Available for UMC Creation Care Conference
Blessed Earth is offering 20 scholarships to North Carolina UMC clergy and lay leaders for the UMC Creation Care Conference in Atlanta, Feb. 6-9. Each scholarship is for $200 to cover registration and some travel expenses. Up to one person per family, and two per church, are eligible for the scholarship. Bishop Ward Addresses ACA
A video of Bishop Ward speaking about churches and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will be posted at www.nccumc.org/bishop on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The ACA will provide access to physical and mental health care for the 1.3 million persons currently uninsured in NC. The window for enrolling in a health insurance plan, to receive the benefits as of Jan. 1, is open until Dec. 23. The enrollment process has been greatly improved since the Oct. 1 introduction, and application may be completed online, by telephone or on paper. Pre-existing conditions will not prevent applicants from getting coverage. If you or someone in your congregation needs help, you can get more information at www.healthcare.gov, or 1-800-318-2596. Some churches are providing navigators to assist in the enrollment. The navigators are trained by Legal Aid of North Carolina. To make an appointment for enrollment assistance, call 1-855-733-3711.
