Media Center Associate
Laura Dallas of Carrboro, a public library branch manager, has been selected as the media center associate in Conference Connectional Ministries and Church Revitalization. She will begin her work for the NC Conference in early May. Further details will be on nccumc.org and in the May Advocate.
Stand Against Racism Day
Bishop Al Gwinn is encouraging all conference clergy and laity, who can, to participate in the North Carolina YWCA’s Stand Against Racism Day on Friday, April 30. To take part in the event, either attend a program at Moore Square in Raleigh or organize a Stand in local congregations during the lunch hour, both on April 30. UMB Staff preparing to move
The United Methodist Building will be closed on Monday, April 26, to allow staff to participate in the 2010 Go Green: Productive Environments Day. This day is geared to clearing clutter and organizing business files in preparation for the upcoming move to the new facility in late June 2010. Phone calls will be received through voice mail on Monday, April 26, and will be returned on Tuesday, April 27.
United Methodist Foundation seeks your input
United Methodist Foundation, Inc. (UMF) is asking local church and conference leaders to provide feedback about the current ministry services of the Foundation. District leaders, pastors, local church financial secretaries or business administrators, chairs of church endowment committees, Legacy Leaders, and interested lay persons are all invited to reply to this performance survey. The responses will help gauge the effectiveness of the current programs and which new or expanded services would be of value to the conference. Health Symposium information still available online
Please note that the School-based/School Linked Health Symposium registration for CEU is still available. This workshop is for the education of lay and health leaders in the church and secular community at large. The online environment for CEU requires registration through East Carolina University’s website: ECU registration. Individuals who register will be provided access to the PowerPoint presentations, videos, and evaluation for credit. The cost is $15.00. Camping Ministries offering discount to children of clergy
Camp & Retreat Ministries is excited to offer a discount for children of pastors in the North Carolina United Methodist Conference. Native American Ministry Sunday date confusion
There has been confusion about the date of the 2010 Native American Ministry Sunday. The 2010 United Methodist Worship Planning Calendar lists the date as April 25 while the website http://www.umcgiving.org/ and the 2010 United Methodist Program calendar each list the date as April 18. Please use the date that is most convenient for your congregation’s worship.
ZOE Ministry has DVD resource available
A seven-minute video presentation highlights the life of a young orphaned girl named Purity in Africa. A story of heartbreak and hope, the video highlights her journey from hunger, poverty, loneliness, and suffering to a life of faith, hope, and self-reliance through ZOE’s Giving Hope Program. Balancing Your Ministry, Renewing Your Life
The Academy for Leadership Excellence is presenting the retreat, “Balancing Your Ministry, Renewing Your Life” with workshop leader Larry Peers of the Alban Institute. The event will be at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort, Wrightsville Beach from noon May 11- until noon May 13. The workshop fee is $250 seminar fee, $149/night for a standard room or $169/night for ocean view; several meals will be on your own. Executive session for clergy to be held in May
The Executive Session for all clergy members will be held on May 14 at First UMC, Rocky Mount from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p m. Information will be forthcoming regarding parking. Attendance is expected of all clergy members; however, only Full Connection Members and Lay Members of the Board of Ordained Ministry have vote.
Conference Youth Rally Day
Conference Youth Rally Day will be Sunday, April 25 at NC Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. Rally Day begins at 3 p.m. with fellowship and recreation activities, and concludes with a worship service ending around 6 p.m. There is no cost to attend Rally Day, although an offering will be taken for Youth Service Fund, and items for YSF and snacks will be available for purchase. Youth groups are invited to offer acts of worship during the worship service and to sponsor recreation activities – pre-registration of these is required by April 19. The details and sign-up sheet for Rally Day have been mailed to local church youth coordinators and are available at the Conference website: www.nccumc.org/youth/events.
Restroom Accessibility Grants are available
Due to a generous grant by the Duke Endowment, restroom accessibility grant requests for rural churches are now being accepted. Grant applications must be received by April 19. Applications and guidelines are available online at Restroom grants.
