Centenary\u00a0United Methodist Church in New Bern was recognized for serving joyfully in their community through their Congregations for Children (C4C) partnership with Oaks Road Academy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gayle Midyette, C4C Coordinator of Centenary UMC, recognized a growing need for food among families of Oaks Road Academy, their partner school. Gayle, a retired school counselor who also serves as the volunteer coordinator for the school, helped launch a food giveaway in response to concerns about food access. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After sharing her vision at church services, donations poured in, ultimately exceeding $25,000. Working with Cathy Howell and Food Lion Manager Kelly Webster, essential food items were secured and prepared. In addition to non-perishable food bags valued at approximately $30 each, families also received $40 grocery gift cards to help purchase fresh, perishable items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the hard work of volunteers from both the church and school staff, a drive-thru distribution was held at Oaks Road Academy, serving more than 100 families with dignity and care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Books were also shared with students, creating a joyful and meaningful experience for families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
