James Apisai, a member of the NCCUMC Creation Care Team, has a message for our youth, and for ALL of us!
Every week for the last several months, young people from around the world have been going on strike. We’ve been demanding a livable and habitable future, a future that is impossible due to the advancement of climate change by the political and economic systems in place. The effects of climate change are being felt TODAY, as superstorms and forest fires ravage our earth, God’s earth. So, on September 20th, 2019 (three days before the United Nations Climate Summit in New York City), the strikes will continue in Raleigh with one key addition: adults will be joining us. This is not just a single-generational issue, and while the youth will be inheriting the earth, it is the responsibility of the past generations to leave them a world in which they can live and prosper. Gone are the days when adults look on and say, “I’m so proud of the youth. If I were younger, I would march with them.” This is the day they march with us. This is the day we invite you, for whether you’re seven or seventy-seven; we are all coming together on this day to demand a better future for us all. There is no more time for apathy or slow-easing in. We must make our voices heard NOW, and we cannot do that without you.
