Human Rights Day is Monday, Dec. 10. The Lectionary text appointed for Dec. 9 includes Luke 3:6, “and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
As we journey toward Christmas and the celebration of Jesus’ birth, we recall that, in his death and resurrection, Christ ushered in the reality of God’s peace and liberation of all beings. While we live in the “already and not yet” of his reign, we work for the vision throughout scripture, that “all will see the glory of our God.”
The glory of God is easily seen in the reconciliation of people with God and one another. Reconciliation is most difficult between enemies, those incarcerated, those interred as prisoners of war, and citizens who rely on jails, prisons, and the military for their safety.
We hope that you and your congregation will find the attached reflection and bulletin insert inspiring as you remember God’s gift of human dignity, forgiveness offered to all, and grace of new life through Jesus Christ.
