The Reverends Jaye White, Ed Rutenkroger and Bill Haddock recently visited with the leadership of the Liberia Annual Conference to see how we might partner with members of that Conference with their Strategic Plan.
Part of that plan is to support the hospital and nursing school, located at Ganta United Methodist Mission Station in Nimba County. In August, our Conference Missions Team will be sending a container filled with items that are needed at the Hospital and the Nursing School, and are locally unavailable.
Rise Against Hunger will work with the Team to provide needed medications and supplies.
There are other opportunities to assist the people of Liberia. On this container, we also want to send over these items:
(1) health kits, instructions can be found here:
https://www.umcor.org/umcor/relief-supplies/relief-supply-kits/hygiene
(2) birthing kits, pdf instructions can be found online by searching: UMCOR birthing kit
(3) as many pairs of eyeglasses as possible. There is an eye clinic at Ganta Mission Station that will be staffed by optometrists from India this Fall. The clinic would like to issue eyeglasses to the hundreds of patients who will come for treatment. Please collect your eyeglasses, box and label them with the number of glasses in each box.
(4) Specific nursing and midwifery books. To get a list of those books or to get other information about this shipment, contact the Reverend Bill Haddock at revbillh@nccumc.org or at 910.262.3831.
All Items can be dropped off at the MERCI Center in Goldsboro by Saturday, August 4.
