Following Thanksgiving, persons from three North Carolina churches – Front Street UMC, (Burlington) led by Rev. Patrick Murphy (NCCUMC), Unity UMC, (Thomasville) led by Rev. Rob Hutchinson (WNCCUMC), and Myers Park UMC, (Charlotte) led by Rev. Nathan Arledge (WNCCUMC) – journeyed with our sisters and brothers in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. With an awareness of the woefully neglected people of Puerto Rico, all churches were able to assemble members to join as one team.
In the spirit of unity, we joined our friends in Puerto Rico, graciously and overwhelmingly welcomed by Bishop Ortiz Puerto Rico and his leadership team. During our time there, we lived with one another, loved one another, hoped with one another and praised God with one another. Our mediums of doing such were chainsaws, dump trucks, backhoes, trash bags, water filtration systems, bags of rice and beans, and school supplies for the children.
