~ Impact an Entire Community!
The NC Conference is seeking sponsors for students at Ganta United Methodist School in Liberia for the upcoming academic year. Please consider supporting a student this year, or gathering together a group from your church to do so. The cost is only $200 for the entire academic year. We encourage you to share this request with others in your area. Last year our conference sponsored 39 students. We would like to increase the number of children we sponsor!
The need is simply this: the economy in Liberia continues to be challenging for families. It is difficult for people living in subsistence conditions to put away enough funds to educate their children at a quality school. The solution is inexpensive by American standards. A gift of $200 will educate a child for one year at Ganta United Methodist School. In addition, these scholarships will provide an income stream to assure that teachers can be paid and that their families can return to a more normal life, after many years of civil war and the tragedy of the Ebola crisis. Your gift will also enable the Mission Station to use other resources for sustainable agriculture in its efforts to become self-sufficient.
Can your church, UMW, Sunday School, other group, or even an individual support the education of one or more children? Will you choose to change the life of someone you have never met? If so, you will be matched with a child and provided the name of a person you can pray for even as you help them return to school.
Pledges can be emailed to Rev. Ed Rutenkroger, Chair of the Liberia Task Force (erutenkroger@nccumc.org) so students can be enrolled. When funds are raised, the check should be made out to NCCUMC – with Love for Liberia Scholarship or Advance S-00228 in the memo line. The most reliable way to get funds into the correct account is for Ed to “walk them through” the system, so please mail all donations to:
