District Disaster Response Coordinators and conference staff are working within their communities to establish plans and facilities for hosting Early Response Teams to help with flooded home clean up and tear outs. In places where the water has receded, and travel is considered safe, the first response teams are arriving.
Response work is beginning this weekend to Hatteras Island, Buxton, and the Frisco area in the Beacon District. Another team is leaving today for Ocracoke to perform needs assessments, seek housing facilities for workers, and to establish a site management volunteer. An initial Early Response Center is planned for setup in Lumberton next week.
Meanwhile, there are ways you can help now! On our Responding to Hurricane Matthew post, we have instructions for the best way to give financially and assemble cleaning buckets and health kits.
A Disaster Response Call Center is being set up at the NC Conference office building in Garner, and volunteers are needed! If you can help Monday-Friday during regular business hours, please sign up and indicate your availability on the Disaster Response Call Center sign-up form.
