Annual Conference 2014 is fast approaching. Plan to participate in one or more of the hands-on mission projects. NCCUMC will be collecting UMCOR School Kits and hosting a Stop Hunger Now food packaging event.
UMCOR School Kits. The school kits are destined for needy children in North Carolina, as part of our Congregations for Children emphasis, as well as children in Liberia and El Salvador. The kits need to be prepared ahead of time and brought to annual conference. Further information about the UMCOR School Kits, including instructions for their completion are found on the UMCOR School kit page. We will have a drop-off point at Annual Conference and will provide signs to direct you. It is not too late to get started! A child somewhere is depending on your generosity.
Stop Hunger Now Food Packaging Event.
Bishop Hope Morgan Ward has set a goal of 100,000 meals to be packaged and $25,000 to be raised, during the 2014 annual conference, a goal met in 2013. The meals will be distributed to school feeding programs or crisis areas around the world. To meet the goal, several hundred volunteers are needed, as are donations. Volunteers are asked to register for a shift during one of three days. You can register at at following Link:

Stop Hunger Now’s meal packaging program is a volunteer-based effort to package highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, flavoring, and a mixture of 21 essential vitamins and minerals. These meals are easily transported to crisis burdened areas or to school feeding programs around the world – in 2013 alone, 28 countries.
Many of our churches have hosted meal packaging events, and attendees at the 2013 North Carolina Annual Conference also gained experience with packaging meals. Lay and clergy members of the Annual Conference and are invited once more to meet the BIG challenge of packaging 100,000 meals during our session in Greenville. It is a goal set before us by Bishop Hope Morgan Ward, a goal we met in 2013 – with much rejoicing!
To meet the goal, we need
• Several hundred volunteers to package the meals
• Donations of $.25 per meal: for 100,000 meals that’s $25,000
To donate funds, you may donate in advance on any of the web site listed above. Baskets will also be available for donations at the meal packaging site in Ballroom E at the Greenville Hilton adjacent to the convention center. Special offering envelopes will be provided in your Annual Conference registration packet.
