The NCC Deacon Endowment team of the North Carolina Annual Conference has joyfully issued its very first award. It is our pleasure to grant this year’s NCC Deacon Endowment award to Rev. Sarah Williams. Sarah serves First UMC – Morehead and lives in the area with her husband, Gray and two sons, Bradley (6) and Jackson (2).
This year’s award recipient wrote in her application, “I never imagined that we would be in a position to need extra assistance. In September 2018, we lost our home in Hurricane Florence. Listening as all the shingles popped off…, we watched as the rising tide started lapping up on the back deck. We carried our kids through the rising waters to our neighbor’s house and watched as our home died a slow death.” She goes on to say, “Our insurance company did not come through for us,… leaving us without money for mattresses, couches, chairs, etc.”
Please join us in praying for the Williams family as the restoration of their damaged home is completed this spring and they move from the camper they’ve been living in since early 2019.
This endowment began in September, 2017 with the intention of creating a fund that could assist deacons in the NCCUMC with continuing education or Good Samaritan needs. The fund has grown since inception and continues to have regular donations, allowing it to be a viable resource of funds not only in the present, but for years to come. If you have given to this fund, thank you. You are making a difference, not only this year as we made our first award, but in perpetuity.
Thanks again for helping make this grant possible for Sarah this year, and for many others in the years to come. Your donation, regardless of size, is significant. Checks can be made out to the United Methodist Foundation, with The NCC Deacon Endowment in the memo line. Forward gifts to UMF, 700 Waterfield Ridge Place, Garner, NC 27529.
