The Duke Endowment hosts the Bishops and Cabinets of the two North Carolina conferences twice each year. The purpose of the gatherings is to increase community and connection of the United Methodist Church across the state, to pray and think together about mission strategy to address current and future needs, and to strengthen leadership for the church.
The Cabinets began Lent together, meeting March 1-2 in Durham. A presentation on clergy effectiveness was offered by Dr. John Bennett from Queens College, Charlotte. Other topics included anti-racism, Hispanic ministries, ministries with children and youth, and the role of clergy in leading people toward social holiness.
