Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” World Communion Sunday (WCS) helps provide education by funding scholarships to qualified students who would otherwise have no opportunity to attend school. We celebrate World Communion Sunday on the first Sunday in October or a date that works for your church.
Providing scholarships in 21 countries, this Special Sunday dedicates at least one-half of it’s funding to ministries beyond the United States. With 320+ scholarships awarded in 2013 alone and $1.3 million in 2013 -14, financial support of World Communion Scholars, this Special Sunday continues to be a source of hope and empowerment to aid future leaders in transforming our world.
Here’s how your gifts are disbursed:
- World Communion Scholarships: 50 percent (General Board of Global Ministries)
- Ethnic Scholarship Program: 35 percent (General Board of Higher Education and Ministry)
- Ethnic In-Service Training Program: 15 percent (General Board of Higher Education and Ministry)
World Communion Sunday calls the church to reach out to all people and model diversity among God’s children. Help scholars become leaders and empower world changers around the globe with your gift to this vital ministry.
