North Carolina consistently ranks in the bottom third of all states for overall health. Approximately 28 percent of the adult population is obese, 10 percent of the adult population is diabetic. One in three North Carolina children are considered overweight or obese, a disturbing indicator of future chronic disease.
A Healthier NC was created to be a statewide public health education campaign promoting good health choices and available health care resources that foster healthier, happier lives and help control cost of care.
A Healthier NC engages citizens around four key themes:
- What does healthy mean?
- What’s my responsibility for improved health?
- What are smarter ways to access care?
- We can do better – Join the A Healthier NC Challenge!
Through A Healthier NC, churches can form online groups, set goals for their group and track progress of their health goals. Each Group will have their own group webpage. A free iPhone app that will help access groups and health journaling tools on the go will be released soon.
