New Features On NCCUMC.org

November 29, 2010 5 Comments

1. New Navigation Menu

Let’s face it, the navigation on the Conference website was good before, but it could really be confusing sometimes. That’s why it needed to be simplified. Let’s take a look at what’s different!

2. Updated Home Page

With a few visual changes, the new home page really stands out!

3. Find Us Page

The Conference has had a lot of questions about how to find the new location since moving to Garner. Now it’s even easier to find the location from the website.

NCCUMC.org Changes with Arrows

1. New Navigation Menu

To make the menu less confusing, the Offices and Ministries tabs were combined. This way, all the offices and ministries within the Conference building will be located under one menu item. See the old menu versus the new menu in the image below.

Combined Offices & Ministries Tabs - Old (top) vs. New (bottom)

Also being introduced, is a mega menu for navigation. This will allow easy access to any quick links under Events, Ministries or Resources. The old menu (below, left) was a normal drop-down that could continue to grow over time, making it messy and hard to find links.

The Resources menu has also been simplified, splitting items up into three categories; Related By Faith, Publications and Conference Resources.

2. Updated Home Page

When updating the home page, a few questions were considered. Who is the audience? What does the audience need? Can the audience find what they need? How can the Conference better promote all offices and ministries through the website?

This was accomplished by making the site more visually engaging. By adding a slider, we can promote many different items in one area, without sacrificing space on the page.

Featured Slider changing from one slide to another

Also changed, were the number of featured articles (now 4) as well as the size of our featured images. This should, in turn, draw attention to the different articles.

Find-A-Church and Pastor Lookup links (left) and Twitter Feed (right)

One feature that has already received good feedback, is the addition of the Find-A Church and Pastor Lookup links in the sidebar. And, one of the last additions to the home page, is the NCCUMC Twitter feed. Anyone who posts a tweet with the hashtag #nccumc, or mentions @nccumc, will be listed in this feed. This is a great way to see who is tweeting about the Conference.

3. Find Us Page

NCCUMC on Google Maps © GoogleBeing able to find the location of the Conference should be a priority.

Using the Find Us page, visitors are greeted with a map of the location as well as turn-by-turn directions from various locations around the NC Conference. See the new Find Us page in action now!

The Communications and IT Offices are always striving to make the website easier and faster to navigate. Continue to check the website for updates and additional changes in the coming year as nccumc.org becomes a better browsing experience!
