The Conference office of Connectional Ministries is sponsoring a workshop on Discipleship, featuring two speakers who are passionate about helping congregations develop ministries that make disciples and help disciples grow in faith. Dan Glover and Claudia Lavy have been workshop presenters at the School of Congregational Development and they co-authored the book Deepening Your Effectiveness. The workshop with the same title is to be held at the Methodist Building on October 29 and 30. Participants are given the choice to attend either Friday or Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The only cost for participants is $10 for lunch, and books will be available for purchase. Pastors and laity are encouraged to attend.
Participants will find the workshop an interactive experience. They will come to recognize the benefits of a plan of discipleship for the local church and steps for developing a plan for forming disciples of Jesus Christ. During the Annual Conference session in June, Bishop Gwinn made the observation that we have focused too long on increasing membership in the church, rather than on discipleship itself. Nowhere in the Bible does it say the church needs more members for finances and activities. Instead, it’s about discipleship!
