The Rev. Jon Strother, pastor of Benson Memorial UMC in Raleigh, will become the Raleigh District Superintendent, Bishop Al Gwinn has announced. The effective date of the appointment is July 1.
Following the practice in previous years, Strother’s new appointment is being announced before the Cabinet begins work on appointments that will be announced at Annual Conference in June. Strother will sit with the Cabinet during the appointment process.
He will replace the Rev. Tim Russell, the current Raleigh District superintendent, who has also been serving as assistant to the bishop and director of ministerial relations. When Bishop Gwinn announced the additional assignments for Russell earlier this year, he said he would not announce a new Raleigh District superintendent until the Cabinet begins the appointment process in March.
Strother will continue to serve as pastor of Benson Memorial until July 1.
