Virtual Children’s Curriculum for Fall 2020

July 29, 2020 Leave a Comment

The new Celebrate Wonder children’s curriculum can be easily implemented in a virtual setting to get kids plugged back in to church this Fall.

Celebrate Wonder is the newest United Methodist-endorsed quarterly children’s curriculum from Cokesbury. Honor the spiritual life of children—their natural sense of awe, wonder, imagination, and curiosity—and help shape their growing faith. Leaders will guide children through engaging experiences, spiritual practices, and opportunities for reflection, giving them a safe space to ask big questions and helping them claim their spiritual identity as children of God.

Celebrate Wonder was designed to be extremely volunteer-friendly. There’s minimal setup required, and each lesson comes with clear, concise instructions. With only 10 to 20 minutes of prep time (and even less for virtual Sunday school!), a leader can feel confident walking into class and exciting kids’ imaginations.

Easy & Faithful Virtual Sunday School!

Cokesbury can show you exactly how to implement this curriculum in a virtual Sunday School setting. They are hosting four training webinars that offer practical, step-by-step tips for setting up a virtual Sunday School class using Celebrate Wonder.

They also offer digital downloads of the curriculum resources that you can email to leaders and parents. The resources you need for virtual or in-person Sunday School are clearly listed on the Reimagine Sunday School website.

Borrow from the Media Center and Take a Closer Look

The NC Conference Media Center has the following print resources available for borrowing. We can mail them to your home! Simply fill out the Resource Request Form and list the resources you would like to borrow. The NC Conference Media Center is open to anyone involved in a United Methodist Church in the North Carolina Conference, free of charge. View a complete list of the pieces of the Celebrate Wonder curriculum that are available to borrow from the Media Center in our online catalog.

The Celebrate Wonder DVD features a child host who will engage children through storytelling, life application, and exploration of the faith word. The DVD includes music videos and thirteen sessions (one for each Sunday) that are 3-5 minutes each. Digital versions of the videos can be purchased from Cokesbury or streamed on Amplify. Check out the sample video.

Leader Guides

The Celebrate Wonder curriculum is divided into age levels 3-5, 6-8, and 9+. If you have all of your kids in one room, see the One Room Sunday School curriculum listed below.

The Leader Guide is your guide to quick and easy classroom preparation! Includes Bible background, flexible activities, step-by-step instructions, reproducible pages, helpful tips, and a spiritual practice for the leader and the children. All activities are designed to help the children engage in open-ended exploration of the Bible stories and develop techniques for engaging their spirituality and faith for years to come.

View a sample of the leader’s guide for ages 3-5, ages 6-8, and ages 9+ to see how this curriculum shines. Each session includes:

  • Background and spiritual practice for the leader
  • Supply list
  • Welcoming time
  • Sing and Celebrate time
  • Wonder Time (Bible story and wondering time)
  • Experience Wonder time (arts and crafts, activities, games, etc.)
  • Peaceful Place
  • Spiritual Practice

Leaders can pick and choose from the offered activities. The script and instructions for each section are clearly laid out making it easy for any volunteer to teach.

Activity Sheets

The Activity Sheets help children engage in the Bible story through interactive crafts, punch-outs, and other fun and interactive activities. These packs can be picked up, delivered, or emailed to each child. Digital activity sheets can be ordered from Cokesbury. View sample activity sheets for ages 3-5, ages 6-8, and ages 9+.

Class Packs

The full-color Class Packs enhance your classroom experience with colorful posters, attendance chart, storytelling mats, the Celebrate Wonder Cube, and more. Digital versions of these class packs can be ordered from Cokesbury. The digital versions include Zoom backgrounds, social media graphics, posters, family letters, coloring pages, Virtual Sunday School Simplified Lessons, and more. View samples of the posters for ages 3-5, ages 6-8, and ages 9+.

The Family Activity Book is designed to offer meaningful family engagement in the Bible stories the children are exploring in Sunday school. For each story, you’ll find a unique retelling of the Bible story, a faith word to explore, wonder questions, and suggestions for a family activity. Designed to appeal to all age groups.

Wondering about the Bible with Children will help you encourage their natural curiosity about Bible stories and suggest the best way to answer their inevitable questions as you navigate potentially tough issues such as violence, miracles, healing, and creation. Part of the Celebrate Wonder Sunday school curriculum, the book is also relevant on its own for any adult who wants to help children grow into a deeper understanding of the Bible.

One Room Sunday School

Re-designed for Fall 2020, the new One Room Sunday School is for kids ages 3-12 who learn together in one group. The kit contains a Leader Guide, Reproducible Kids’ Book, Resource Pack, CD-ROM, and a tote bag to carry everything in. The CD-ROM is a quarterly music CD-ROM with added PowerPoint slides, song sheets, and instrumental tracks. The Resource Pack contains colorful, easy-to-use posters to reinforce the Bible story, plus storytelling helps, an attendance chart, and more! The Reproducible Kids’ Book is 96 pages of activities tailored to each session throughout the quarter. From coloring pages to creative writing prompts, this resource will lead children to a deeper understanding of each Bible lesson.
