The General Commission on United Methodist Men has published a new study for use in men’s groups. In partnership with the YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee, the UMM have created an 8-session curriculum, Amending Through Faith, that is dedicated to ending violence against women and girls by engaging and educating men.
The 90-minute sessions are designed to help men understand how common statements and actions result in one in four women in the US becoming victims of domestic violence and 5 million children in the US, or one in fifteen witnessing abuse in their homes each year. Each session is biblically based. The program was tested in 15 congregations prior to release and received much positive and impactful feedback.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month making this an appropriate time of year to offer this study. You can use this promotional video to introduce it.
The course includes a leader guide on a USB flash drive and a printed participant workbook. The Media Center has the leader guide and one copy of the workbook available to borrow. Additional workbooks can be ordered at https://www.etouches.com/Amend.
